Most famously however, is the fact that this very popular server received a cease and desist order from Blizzard Entertainment, on April 5th, causing them to close their doors by April the 10th, 2016 “definitively.” Guilds participating in level 60 raid content on the server shared their adventures on YouTube and Twitch. One such server, Nostalrius, grew from a few hundred players to 150,000 active players around the world. Privately hosted and unofficial servers have allowed players to revisit “Vanilla” World of Warcraft. Some players however, took a different route than missing the old days. World of Warcraft Cataclysm had wiped away much of the previous lore content, and much of the one time only events such as the opening of AQ are many years in Warcraft’s Past. Others wish they had gotten the shot at experiencing the content as they became fans of the game much too late. Most Warcraft players on official servers may miss or wish they had the chance to experience Vanilla be it the experiences, the content, the community, or the sights. MMORPGs are ever changing, leaving previous content to become almost fabled. In honor of the launch, here’s my old interview with them! Many see the closing of the server as what lead the push towards Classic servers which are opening today. Back when I was an editor for the now defunct WoW Community Magazine, I got the chance to interview the team behind Nostalrius.
